Newry Information
Ireland is an old country, built on the earliest bones of time, the whole country is a vast archaeological site with millions of recorded & unrecorded  features that could be anything from an interesting stone discovered on a hill, to a forgotten ringfort on a hill opposite..  Resonant with local attachment and deep continuities, it has the worlds most ancient historic landscapes that gives our unique Irish  identity.  Newry played a very important role in the ancient times and is recorded by the bards as doing so through out the ages. Newry is a very special place but  during the past 50 years,an intensive wrecking and bulldozing of our ancient towns embankments & medieval building that are irreplaceable & the land marks used by our ancestors are all but  extinct  & while you may be under the illusion that Newry began only 850 years ago you are in for a big supprise.  The Newryabbey was once called the college of Newry, the last time this term was used was in 1456 when Infact the Abbey went under a serious rebuilding scheme & like many others In Ireland at this period was refurbished, many of the building survived after the reformation and indeed some still survive today.  Newry & Mourne say's theres none??  The worst period of destruction for the Abbey was during the Corrys dynasty, when it is believed that this once very famous Abbey  was brought to the edge of extinction,(load of rubbish) by thier English love for such places. But you cant allways believe what you read, especially when it was written to decieve and cover up the likes of the story behind the 33 mutilated body's found.  Many of the Abbey building were pulled down, but many were not &  this abbey chapelis proof of the pudding.

Sunday Telegraph Reveal's Fake Castle
The cutting at the top is from Knox's history of county Down 1873.  When the  plan above left, was brought to the foreground again In the argument against the Castle at a meeting with a witness In 2006.  Newry & Mourne representitives, the big 3 as I call them, made big effort's to distance them selves from this supposed Burghley's plan.  This In the same way they have hidden fro this building as being any part of the Abbey.  Nicholas Bagenal was dead In 1580ish, the supposed builder of this Castle, yet Its his sons name the map, the scribbled out name according to Newry Mourne Is Cooley. However  like Nicholas and Henry Bagenal, no such name had an address In Newry, nor in the Cooley mountains for that matter.  The only man that could put his hand to this document was Abbot Creily, Crilly,  was recorded & seen to be doing a deal for part of the Abbey at this date, where be it in a book, !!  was he curiously buying it back from the Bagenal's ? The plot thickens.   When I told Newry Mourne Ceiely was a monk I got these expresion's.  The painting is titled 3 Clowns lost  In an Irish Abbey.  They were quite choked as no doubt was Creily, Crilly after he got the noose. .    I believe nothing now about Newry.    Then we have the building at the top of mill street, it was called  Creely crilly Castle of Newry & which was according to my finding nothing more than a big house belonging to the Abbey as well, & like the other Abbot's house so to speak at the top of Hyde Market,  It too became known as a Castle.

Strangely enough, this Creily Mill St Castle got publication In 1743 In Harris History of down. Seems It was there as the only Castle In Newry at the date mentioned, so where's Bagenals if Harris didnt mention it, was it the real Abbot's house, here dont be at it !!!   However back to the plan.  No Matter whos name It is that H Bagenal's name replaced & an abbey building that never was anything but the same.  Hans Christain anderson couldnt have written a better childs tale.  The little plan In question, drawn by 3 hands by the way ??   tells a different story, where be It the true one, dont forget In all this, the Queen of England didnt refuse Nicholas Bagenal to build a Castle In Newry, she refused his son Henry, who was at this time about 28, a bit young to be building monastic Castles dont you think. ??
Most links found & content on this web site connect to first edition historical manuscripts & or publication's showing precise statement's as written. The photo's are all copy right of the author, they should not be used with out permission.  All are proof of the real historically recorded annals' of Newryabbey in Co Down N. Ireland. (Unless you know different)  All of these book's, map's, leaflets, guides, history book's, religious writing, & copy's of almost 200 year's of Newry & Mourne's memoirs & town guide,s along with associated English edited Newry town guides, leaflets & booklets & abbey supplements are the author's own Library.   Important references from medieval Cistercian's records along with period English State papers are included in order to show nothing but the truth in all eventualities.   The author was born with in the immediate Newryabbey enclosure & spent part his youth attending the Abbey school & so know's the whole abbey area like the back of his hand.   In short he climbed the walls of the Abbey & went where he wasnt supposed to, naturally he discovered some  scary truth's while walking through the undercrofts..  He see's the recent errecting of an alleged lost English Castle that uses an abbey chapel building as being in the manner of the preverbal English Cuckoo. He finds this distortion of Newry's history as an affront to his ancient Irish culture, & those other culture's that were nursed with in this foundation of St Patrick.
Nicholas Bagenal Is the man Newry Mourne claim built this supposed Castle in the bove redicule mention. His name Is no where to be seen In any document or part of the argument.  This Sir Henry mentioned above was a lad at the date 1572.  Sure Is a curious map & done with 3 different hands, Newry & Mourne agree.   All 3 hands were monks In my mind & the date was more like 1641-2 when the monk In question Creily was hung for his good deeds, & when Henry Bagenal was able to write
