Secrets Of The Hidden Abbey Of The Iubhar Cinn Tragha. A Lost Tara & Irish Abbey. By Oliver Curran 1996- 2009 An Irish Artist |
Ireland is dotted with similar door stones Leix & many other Abbey sites. |
The part of the church building to the right in the picture below, with the white
board in front of it, is the Great Church Choir, or the sacristy, I believe it
the choir from what I seen with my own eyes.sadly It is now the supposed lost
Bagenal castle. The yellow part left, is historically recorded as the Blessed Virgin Mary" Church of Newry & of the nine alters, some of these alters would have stretched over the Lidl Castle
Street entrance area " This building which still has the 9 alter pillars
along the walls of its interrior can prove by its structure features that it
really is what I say it is. |
It may seem strange, but Newry Co Down Is the first ever written about Tara In Ireland.
A.D. 1258, we read in our native Annals of an Irish Parliament, at or near Newry. However even with these Irish annals & sparce the words may may
be, local written history omits them especially so In the past 500 yrs.
Not a word Is mentioned either about our Catholic beginning's, yet
the English history, right or wrong is well promoted by Newry & Mourne.
You can find on line pages and pages about Needham and the like's and how
Newry has spent hundreds of thousands preserving this & that belonging to these
and other English familys. Try finding one thing belonging to Newry's
Irish past & you have a job on your hands, yet this place was of great importance,
massive remains and undercrofts that hold the tombs of many great Irish Kings Cheiftans & their wifes & familys are still here to be seen, but only if you are one of the privilaged, & or one of our towns leading
members & or one of the choosen councilors that have allready visited the" little village" beneath this so called Castle, a place which I told them all about
In writting!! long before they began digging, in the fruitless search for
this never was Castle. |
This Cistercian arch above seen blocked up 2006 ,Is a feature In this so called Castle
today, there are three more of these around the front walls of this supposed
brand new built Bagenal Castle. Many other arches the same can be seen
through out the old Abbey school. The origions of the above mentioned arches
are in no doubt, identical arches are in the mother house in France.
Ironically the red letters above the arch spells out to those of us in Newry
how far we are allowed to go if we want to preserve our ancient cultural monument's.
It's concrete clear what Newry and Mourne thinks of our needs
and civil rights. This arch led in & out of the Abbots Choir & into the massive monks grave yard on Castle street. However despite
my court action threats and counter attacks on the council, this holy place
was torn apart & turned into a lie. English history Is more Important
to some. For having this view I have been called anti English, here i return the
pleasure, how about some in Newry being anti Irish. The world governing laws (England rules the rooost) of those which forbid any single stone of any such monastic monument being hurt or dismembered. Try making a gripe about one like I have done and see how far you get. unesco, america passed on my complaint to their England office who rang Belfast Heritage, lol, these the people that brought about this lie in the first place, talk about talking to a brick wall, its like getting a monk hung twice. Newry & Mourne Council still tell us they believe " their" so called experts, these the people that now hide from this shame and or make excuses in the Sunday Telegrap.. These the people that hid their views since 1996 and who now admit this isnt a Castle. |
My ability to challange this Newry and Mourne fabrication stuff is authenticated here. The butchering of these Newryabbey building's has continued for over
1000 years. The hate levied towards all such building during the
15th _16th centuries In Ireland seems to be reborn here In Newry Co Down, In 2006 |
Newry and Mournes experts found the carving below, in Mc Canns bakery Newry, according
to them It sparked the hunt for this supposed Castle. At this time
they thought they were standing In the Abbots House , but the Abbots house according
to the Cistercian map was 100 yards away across the street, this "supposed
lost" Abbots House was were Mc Canns opened thier first bakery In Newry
Circa 1837. It was the deemed Castle of the Needhams, this being no more than
an English mans home.No Newry Castles was ever registered In England & It was law
to register and ask permission to build such a thing. The last Castle registered
& built was In Scotland 1500, the Crown stopped the practice, because they
saw people like Bagenal as a threat to seizing that which was owned by the crown. |
! In the aftermath of the Sunday Telegraphs report about these hush hush N. Ireland experts, we now know what they are capable of. This done and seemingly dusted report certainly leaves a lot to be desired, especially when you see that all of these so called English soilders which were dug from the floors, had thier faces chopped off or thier heads cut In two, barring none, ugly stuff even for this date in time when you note the ages of them, all under 25 years old, amongst these were 3 juveniles, gorey stuff to say the least, & not unlike the remains found in Carlingford Abbey !! they to were hacked through the skulls in the same way, were these British as well ?? In this day and age how unfair Is it to come out with such one way claims, especially when these people from the top down cant seem to tell an unrecorded Castle, from an almost perfect medieval church & Its Choir. Then to think they can just walk away from all these claims, with out dispute, is sad stuff. It would be Ok If all was an open and shut case, but this affair is far from that. I for one will not have this kind of ancient finger pointing going In my direction at a time when all this stuff should not be mentioned. From my research, the Newry remains were buried by decent christains, 2 Newry protestant ministers, and this after people were thrown in to the Newry river by Monroe and Bagenals troops. Also very poinient is that Newry and Mourne obviously agree that the slaughter commited on these supposed English soildier's was commited by the Irish & or Newry people, the whole story Its all here the report Jan 2007 |

Ireland is an old country, built on the earliest bones of time, the whole country
is a vast archaeological site with millions of recorded & unrecorded features
that could be anything from an interesting stone discovered on a hill, to a forgotten ring fort
on a hill opposite. Resonant with local attachment and deep continuities,
it has the worlds most ancient historic landscapes that gives our uniqueIrish
identity. Newry played a very important role in the ancient times
and is recorded by the bards as doing so through out the ages. Newry is a
very special place but during the past 500 years,an intensive literal wrecking
and recent bulldozing of our ancient towns history its real life embankments &
medieval building that are irreplaceable & the land marks used by our ancestors
are all but extinct. While you may be under the illusion that
Newry began only 850 years ago, or so im told by Newry & Mourne .
The facts however tell quite a different story. Newryabbey that is the
very first Abbey, the one that St Patrick founded, was once called the college
of Newry, this is borne out by the English annals where king Alfred is recorded
as being In Newry college not long after St Pat founded it, now we cant
call statments in English history books lies can we.!! The last time's this College term was used was in 1456 & 1560,? In 1560 it was used to describe certain lands which were handed over to Bagenal, by the very generous absent land owner, undertaker, Queen Lissy, who hadnt a deed in her hands. The worst period of destruction after the reformation it seems for the Abbey was during the Corrys dynasty, when it is believed that this once very famous Abbey was brought to the edge of extinction. But again this stuff is as spurious as you can imagine when you look at the out look of the many historians who never ever wrote too much about the catholics or thier buildings in Newry for over 450 years, simply because they couldnt see them even if they wanted to,& so I dont believe a word of most of it. This Abbey building today shows you cant all ways believe what you read. Records show that much was written to decieve the magnitude of the Irish & to suit a new English way of life here. The continuity of tale telling here to suit the English Is rife still in my mind. Facts are Facts !! |

IBasically what these people are telling us, is that if Canterbury Cathederal got
a Lottery grant & was turned it into an unrecorded Winsor Castle, that's ok. Sir Richard Needham told the Sunday Telegraph that he knew Irish history and because of this it was probably not Bagenals Castle. Yet he came to Newry In 2004 and endorsed the building as such. Mr Needham the former Northern Ireland Office minister said he is unconvinced that the building is Bagenal's Castle. Wish he'd relay this to 3 certain people In Newry who are still a bit lost on the issue. Why call it a Castle in the first place Richard.?? & Dont tell us you are being more Irish than the English Irish. |
As said before the entity of this never was castle, wipes out the truth of all concerned
In Newry's history. It not only wipes out the exact placings
of the Abbey buildings, It adds a building that was never ever there, if you
get my meaning. Reality is now we had two Mc Canns Bakerys in Castle Street
and these made the scam almost fool proof. Its very important that all
this is put right because if the Abbots house has moved position, so has the very
important monks grave yard which was between these two building in question
& Infact the street that meets your eyes in the picture above was the grave yard
of the monks, it was once filled with head stones. Like many other Abbey
grave yards In Ireland it was torn apart by the reformers, ,time allowed for
them to be swallowed up by the earth, the street above became known as the shambles,
try looking at maps other Abbeys In Ireland and note they all have a shambles.
Many of the monks that were buried in the street above were
in fact English, Cornish and Welsh, few it seems from the writting that remain
were actually Irish, none the less Irish names like Crilly or Creily and Sheil
were amongst the outstanding & that were hung & buried along the street above.
Ironically the end of this grave yard is marked today by an English red phone box. How ill fitting. The Abbots them selves and other senior monks were & according to Cistercian tradition burried underneath the building's in the picture above. Many of their tombs are still there, that is if you want to believe my findings on all. As said the tombs of the Senior Abbots are still down in the Castle Street undercrofts in rows, I saw them, when i was a lad, & the recent film footage" Lost Castle in the city" showed this to be fact , the fottage however was very quick to dissapear from the T.V archives when it was seen to be a mistake to show it, at the height of this argument. Newry and Mourne have said and printed that they havent been down in the undercrofts & that theres nothing there, but an English 19th cent cellar. Ha with medieval steps !! When this fake Castle came to light In 1996 Newry & Mourne council along with its money providers (English Heritage Lottery) & made a very serious & worrying statment to the world, that they were going to redefine the history of Newry. They have sadly been allowed to achieve that goal. Along with all this the identity of the 33 people they exhumed ( mass grave) which I mentioned before have been totally changed to those of the spurious. They tell that these poor people (young monks and nuns who were slaughtered) are infact English soldiers killed at what ever battle suits the cause. THEY EVEN STATE THE WRONG DATES FOR THE BATTLES, (EXPERTS?) So the redefining goes on!! St Pat even gets a kick on the arse In the Bagenal Castle book, Newry and Mourne states St Pat is so far back in the mist that nothing can be proved about him, that is after a hundred years or so holding him up in the air as being the man who got Newry on its way is now non existent. The famous Newry Yew trees (NEWRIES) which are recorded In the book's of ancient times & deemed planted by St Patrick never existed either if he didnt? This fact is held up by takeing a look at the new Newry crest which is just a wee couple of cottages, ironically painted the same Irish lime white as the supposed Castle. Boy !! So in short again !! not only has English Heritage and Newry Mourne manage to change the real history of the place, they have also rewritten the book of Kells and the 4 masters & many others, all in one fould swoop. How cool are these people, mad stuff but real. This is our precious Abbey, as precious as all others in Ireland , its not to be sold for a grant from Lottery, this place is very special to some and me its where my ancestors are burried, why shouldnt I shout about it. The trials & tribulation's our ancient familys went through all those many hundreds of years ago when first building this place called Newry, were hard going times , they now deserve the real truth being told about them "for once" & not a pack of redifined words to suit a Castle that never existed. Newry is as Irish as anywhere else in Ireland. These people really need to get a grip, because what they are asking us to do, is to forget our cultural roots & I for one will never succomb to this redefing lark. I wont have my family or yours lied about . The dead people that were dug up from the floors of this chapel deserve dignity, the quicker the 33+ bodys that Newry and Mourne dug up, are back in the hallowed soil the better. |
The statue of our Lady can be seen under the red arrow in the picture below ,
The blue arrow shows us the Great Chapel further up the street at the
entrance to Lidl. The building's in the picture just happen to be 225 feet as the Cistercian map states quite clearly they should be, another coincidence ? Click on the
picture for a larger view. Virgin Statue |

The warehouse mentioned In the above advert became Mc Canns 2nd Bakery In Newry in 1893 when the same seed house (really Virgin church) was sold to Mc
Canns who had thier bakery at that time across the street In the Cole Hole or St
Colemans Hall. This building if it were still standing today would perhaps have been the true site of a supposed
Castle building,if such a thing was ever on an ordinance survey map or built,
but no Castle is on any such map. Bagenal is believed to have lived in the Cole
Hole, very apt if you ask me !! However Newry & Mourne knocked the building
down for the new road. Was the English mans home Castle so to speak spawned at this date,? quite a question !! However for now we
stay at the not there now Mc Canns 2nd bakery which was as it says on the advert above, opened in 1836. Why
the public of Newry never got this information is a closely guarded secret (scam)
when you look at all concerned with open eyes. At the same date that this
building was demolished, the great figure of Our Lady went missing from the front wall of the "Abbey school building's" as most people call it ! (the statue can
be seen below in a photo) where it had rested 25 feet in the air for a hundred
years, is it all coincidence, ? my bum, eh I mean it may be likely !! . At this
same date Newry & Mourne demolished the reception house of the Abbey as well !!,
this which stood almost along side Mc Canns first bakery at the top of Hyde market, and infact was also used by Mc Canns at the same date of 1836 at
the head of Hyde market. Its sad to say that with the knocking down of these two abbey building there was
also the destruction of what lay beneath them in the cistercians tunnels and tombs,
many senior monks and or abbots bones and garments were torn asunder and ripped
apart by the diggers and bulldozers. |
According to our Newry museum experts, the stone above is English ? & is perhaps of some date around about 1580 .!! Not bad guesses, lol, by our highly paid
experts, but on both assumptions they are only out by a few hundred years
or so, & sure what does that matter. This stone sparked the imagination
of our Newry expert & soon she was joined in this imaginitave ideoligy by
another so called expert, from Belfast English Heritage, between them they started
the redefining of Newry & the Bagenal Castle hunt. The laughable fact is that the documents
& plans they gleaned info from were infact Monastic ones. More laughable
is the fact that the plans they show us for the supposed Castle, shows the top
floor as being wider that the bottom floor, a bit like having a hat thats too
big for your head. |
A quick Insight to the reason for this web site. In 1996 Newry and Mourne
Council decided to redefine the history of the ancient town of Newry, this
in all events and reality being the Newryabbey , which was the foundation of St Patrick (Patrician Abbey) & then St Malachy (who
again founded it as a Patrician Abbey) & who was later seen to convert it into
a Cistercian Abbey 1157, this being the date Newry council says that Newry was
born & or fell out of the sky !!! , The redifining was brought about by
an assumption by a supposed (Newry) expert, who found an apparent English carving,
Item on a wall In the Newry medieval church its self, this supposed edifice of an English king, is in reality Murdock Mc Loughlin and his hound, & in short
an irish church door jamb !! This claim snowballed into the clever minipulation
of a 2 & a half million pound grant from the British goverment Lottery.
Well done says all of us. But and there is a big but, what if & when this
assumption was evolved into its farcefull reality, & its eventual wipeing out
of the real historically recorded truth of the story behind the ediface & indeed
the burying of the cultures & identity of those who actually carved the stone
and the real history of our Newry town ?. This is just what has happened & naturally
its very serious stuff. If there was one British document
In support of this fabrication & assumption, id be glad to give up & call it
a day, but theres not an iota of one. While it's great for the City ££££££££s,
and all those Involved ,new cars, bigger houses,(look at us we have a Castle)
this twist in our real history has become a lot more than selfish aims,
its become that which is commonly known as (that infamous greed for noteiroity).
But while we can all look at see thids going on what about the ancient
Irish family's from the true history of the place who are out there looking for
family links which are now buried for ever beneath this farce of a Castle.
Newryabbey's heart was my ancestors home, It was bespoiled by this Enshrined
Bagenal person who Haverty describes in a very apt way. History repeats its self again the Abbey of Newry is bespoiled
on behalf of the same notorious name, a name which in reality should not
be even whispered In these peacefull times, but remember Newry & Mourne Council
dug this & undercrofts stuff up not me. |
An English Castle which was the unlived dream child of Marshall Bagenal, real name
Bagnol,as stated above St Patricks church door way in High Street !!
has now been fabricated Inside the Great medieval Church & Choir of the Blessed
Virgin Mary In Castle street In Newry Co Down. Not one shred of evidence
has been found to support this Newry money making scheme. Oh yes you can read
loads about this great Castle but not one word of it is true. Bagenal's
house was out in the highway (where, what highway) ? this according
to an emminent visitor to Newry. Newry and Mourne have now moved it into
the Abbey main church. According to all research Bagenal did not even
have an address In the town, no builders evidence has been found to support English
Lotterys case, and boy did I drill them. Inside this supposed Castle,
a glass floor funded by Heritage Lottery, covers the entrance to the tombs
of the Abbots who were hanged during the Bagenal's rule in Newry .
In recent times English banquets have been held In the main church above the
graves of our ancestors & now we have a cafe in the church of the nine alters
where people sit and laugh in the place of God. I know there is worse happening
In other churches, but at least they have thier rightfull titles.
The great chapel of Newry is now a British museum, with british items of
war displayed ,these items pay homage to the people who's ancestors reformed this
once massive & beautifull Catholic church which finally closed its doors in
1853. |
Do you care about Newrys real history ? if you do, Newryabbey needs your vote, please
click here, you do not commit your self in any way. The supposed Bagenal Castle has stolen
the identity of our Blessed Virgin Church, & our Abbeys real place on the
Monastic trail, all you are saying by clicking a button is that we want it back. |
So to cut a long story short & like the English preverbial Cukoo, Newry and Mourne
made a nest for its demolished English mans Castle or house in an identically
aged building approx 80ft across the street. The whole plan went egg shape
& the truth as told here was revealed when i launched an official objection, the
only official objection ever lodged. |
Bagenal Castle is a Joke, I said so in 1996 and Im still laughing today. Here read
this lot in the Sunday Telegraph It Interviews Richard Needham the man who offically opened the supposed castle &
and Ken Pullin, the secretary of the Ulster Archaeological Society. It's
true they have finally come clean & given support to the " Its not Bagenals Castle
". |
